Feb 12th 2008, UK: Intermorphic Ltd today announces Noatikl V1.5, its new and unique trans-generative music engine, simultaneously establishing a new "fluxer" category for MIDI controlled generative hyperinstruments. Fluxers are excellent for generating new ideas, or even adding another dimension to live performances.

With the release of V1.5, noatikl's generative music engine has been transformed into a powerful trans-generative music engine through the addition of functionality allowing it to be totally controlled by a combination of Lua scripts and external MIDI events, either live e.g. from MIDI keyboard, MIDI guitar or other MIDI instrument, or from a MIDI file. This major extension means that Noatikl (pronounced "noh-tickle") can now harmonise and flux around an overall external musical structure, creating MIDI notes and events which can be used to drive samplers, synths and FX units.

As a fluxer (or "MIDI-fluxer"), Noatikl generates musical output that can be in a state of constant generative flux. Fluxers have a trans-generative music engine at their core because they need to be easily and externally directed via scripting and/or MIDI control. A trans-generative music engine can of course freewheel completely standalone like an ordinary generative music engine, creating rule-bassed music without external input, but that is like driving a high-performance sportscar at 10 mph!

Noatikl can now be controlled from within, with (optional) Lua trigger scripts that fire while a Noatikl piece is playing: the effect on Noatikl is quite incredible, and it totally transforms what the tool can now deliver. It is rather like going from a "flat" 2D world to a contoured "3D" world full of interesting undulations and topology.

Noatikl can now also be controlled in real-time in response to incoming MIDI controller events. Noatikl automatically harmonises with incoming MIDI note events, and those note events can be used to trigger various responses within Noatikl using the scripting engine.

Availability and Pricing

Noatikl V1.5 is available for both Windows and Mac macOS, and variants include plugin versions for e.g. Apple Logic (AU), Cakewalk Sonar (VSTi), Steinberg Cubase (VSTi), Ableton Live (AU, VSTi) etc. as well as a standalone version, very useful in its own right, and also for where there is no suitable plugin variant, e.g. Pro Tools.

Prices range from $99 for a single version Non-Commercial Licence, through to $189 for a Commercial Licence Suite which includes all variants for that OS. The Intermorphic web store has full details.
