It uses techniques developed over the last 17 years through our work on the award-winning Koan generative music system, techniques now used in the all-new and superior "Noatikl".

Noatikl is a generative (MIDI) music engine. It creates musical information in the form of MIDI notes, and can also generate and send MIDI controller information to generatively control settings of your favourite synths, FX units and samplers.

Its interface is deceptively simple and uncluttered; yet Noatikl still lets you easily get remarkable results without needing to understand music theory or be a music scientist. We have plenty of users who testify to how it creates great results for them, and these users come from all walks of life. See our user quotes page for user testimonials.

There are variants available for both Win and Mac OS X, including plugin versions for e.g. Logic (Audio Unit [AU]), Sonar (VSTi, DXi MIDI Effects), Cubase (VSTi, MIDI Effects), Ableton Live (VSTi), Reaper (VSTi) etc. as well as a standalone version, very useful in its own right, for where there is no suitable plugin variant, e.g. Pro Tools.

Noatikl has extensive built-in scripting features, and can also be used as a customisable hyperinstrument!

Generative music (more background) is a whole area in and of itself, and Noatikl is the perfect tool for exploring and creating it. To quote a haiku by Mark Harrop:

Noatikl's roots

Noatikl is created by Pete Cole and Tim Cole, creators of the 2001 BAFTA-award winning SSEYO Koan Interactive Audio Platform, and the 2005 BAFTA-award winning SSEYO miniMIXA.

We bring to this product the years of experience we have of developing generative music engines, and a past user base who is keen to see what we can do next. Noatikl is already much more powerful and versatile than Koan ever was.
