Intermorphic was co-founded in 2007 by Tim and Pete (us). We've a 26+ year history of developing creativity & relaxation ("creative relaxation") apps / tech and we love building tools that both help people to create ideas and to relax and enjoy the moment. To do it all we utilise various generative music and cut-up techniques.

As is true for life, we tend to see the "creative" process as being about the journey and not the destination. No matter how amazing they might be destinations are just moments frozen in time. The journey really is where it's at - it's "in the moment".

"Intermorphic" is a word meaning "between forms". It's a word we first used at SSEYO, a company we co-founded in 1990 and where we built Koan. It's very apt for us because we, too, are still on the creative journey and we continue to evolve.

Creative Relaxation

We build our music creativity tools both help to stimulate creative reflective thought and foster the generation and sharing of personal artistic creative expression ("peace"). We build them because everyone needs a creative outlet, and we believe that being creative can also help you relax; the two can go hand in hand. How so? The live output of our music apps can be appreciated right there and then (see "inmo"), perhaps for relaxation and enjoyment, or saved and later used in e.g. films, games, songs, lyrics, writing etc.

Our Long Journey

Our journey of ideas and 'open' apps started 27 years ago, in 1990, with SSEYO. SSEYO was our first "book"; it was a biggie for us.

SSEYO developed various BAFTA Award winning generative music tools and "mobile music making" audio software. The 1994-released SSEYO Koan Generative Music System went on to be used by talented generative artists such as Jamuud, Tim Didmyus, Mark Harrop and Andrew Garton, as well as by the genius Brian Eno for his 1996-released "Generative Music 1 with SSEYO Koan Software". The 2004-released SSEYO miniMIXA "mobile music mixer" was one of the first powerful native mobile music making apps for use on Smartphones.

With Intermorphic we are now on our second "book", and there is a lot that's new (including "inmo" and "reflective music"). Some of the concepts may be familiar, but we've never stopped trying to innovate and we continue to develop new apps & tech. We hope you enjoy our new "book"!

In 2002 SSEYO was acquired by Tao Group. We worked there until June 2007 when Tao Group's assets were sold (the engineering staff and management of which then went on to form a new company, Antix Labs which has now also gone). As we wanted to continue our life's work in creating apps to help generate ideas and deliver unique "inmo" experiences, we knew we had to start again, and we did so as Intermorphic.

In 2008 Intermorphic acquired the rights to the SSEYO.com domain, SSEYO trademarks and all the SSEYO, Koan, miniMIXA and iSS [intent Sound System which is now part of our Tech] related IP (noting that we did not take on SSEYO as a going concern, or get any customer records etc), so we now own our "back catalogue". The old SSEYO Koan IP is now in safe "curatorial" hands and, even though it is on the shelf and will not be further developed, maintained or supported, we are using bits of it where we can for parts, e.g. Mixtikl includes some of what was in the iSS.

Our thanks to past users...

If you purchased, used and enjoyed our SSEYO products - we greatly thank you! Although SSEYO is now gone, we hope you also decide to try out and enjoy our new apps and tools (and you may like to know that Noatikl can open / play your old Koan SKD files).

The Intermorphic Technologies include the following which are used in different combinations in our apps below:

Wotja 4

Generative Music Mixer, Composer & Cut-Up Text Editor

for Music Creativity, Creative Writing & Creative Relaxation

Looking for new ideas? Music, Words? Wotja uses "Generative Music", "Text-to-Music" and "Cut-Up Text" techniques to help break creator's block. Its music is great for relaxation, too!

What is Wotja?

Wotja is a tightly integrated creativity & relaxation ("creative relaxation") app that utilises generative music and cut-up text techniques.

As of 2017 it co-opts the best of Mixtikl, Noatikl, Liptikl (and Tiklbox), and more besides, and provides a forward migration path for files created in them. It's more than each of them individually and it is their future. It is available in both subscription and non-subscription versions.

Bottom line: With Wotja we're better able to improve usability and deliver important new capabilities for greater creative possibilities.

See these FAQ entries: Liptikl, Noatikl, Mixtikl.

Our primary brands for 2017 are Intermorphic and Wotja.

Back in 2007 we carefully chose our company name and settled on Intermorphic as intermorphic means "between forms". Besides, it also provided a link to our SSEYO past as we had used that term then, too.

We knew right from the start that we were going to build a new generative music engine which would work like the SSEYO Koan Music Engine in that its live note composition output would change "shape" to mold to / integrate / accomodate various inputs, be these external or other internal. One of the ways we saw it was as a kind of dynamic note lattice (a lattice is a regular structure that has "shape") so this is where our term kinetic lattice comes from - a "Kinetic Lattice" is always "between forms" so is perpetually intermorphic.

However, for a number of reasons we decided our first app was instead going to be a lyric generator ☺. As it is often handy to look at things from a different or "elliptical" perspective we decided our first app brand should be "Liptikl".

A the same time we were working on the brand for our upcoming generative music engine. We wanted a brand that could have a nod towards Koan, which is how we then came up with Noatikl. Even better that "Tikl" was a perfect abbreviation for The Intermorphic Kinetic Lattice.

It all turned out that this letterplay was quite serendipitous as it allowed us to refer to our underlying basket of technologies and frameworks as The Intermorphic Kinetic Lattice Technologies or "TIKLTECH" / "Tikltech" (The Intermorphic Kinetic Lattice TECHnologies). A perfect wrap up!

Of course, we knew that when it comes to branding taxonomy the normal practise is for the common part of a brand (i.e. a stem) to be first, or to prefix other common words (e.g. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel etc.). However, we have always been a bit different, and so we decided it was OK to go with an appended product stem, "Tikl", as it also allowed our engine / tool product brands of the day to stand on their own two feet, independent of the main company brand.

Nothing stands still and we are always striving to keep innovating so in 2016 we came to the conclusion it was time to take the bold step to try to fold all our music apps into one. Intermorphic had over the years become quite a strong brand in its own right and we had already eastablished a great, fresh, non-technical music app brand in the form of Wotja. It was obvious what brands to choose for the next stage of our journey - Intermorphic for our engines and Wotja for our app.

Intermorphic, Wotja, Noatikl, Liptikl, Optikl, Partikl, Mixtikl, Practikl, Tiklpak, Tiklbox, Tikltech, Kinetic Lattice, and the Intermorphic, Wotja, Noatikl, Liptikl Optikl, Partikl, Mixtikl, Tiklbox, Tiklpak and Tikltech logos are either registered trademarks or trademarks of Intermorphic Ltd. in the UK and/or other countries. Wotja is a registered trademark of Intermorphic Ltd. in the EC with Community Trade Mark Registration No. 012329199.
