Why just listen to generative music if you can easily make your own?

We asked ourselves that when we started out developing Mixtikl (and its precursor back in 2004). Much feedback we got from our previous Koan generative music tools was that people got the most fun and enjoyment when they made something that was uniquely theirs. It turns out that the real promise of generative music is in making your own. This is why we have focused on "open" tools, rather than on "closed" players.

Intermorphic does not see itself as the "artist", it sees YOU as the artist. That is the key premise for all our generative tools and apps, and you are who we build them for.

Half the fun of making your own music, is in sharing it with others. This is as true with recorded music, as it is with generative music. That is why we have developed Mixtikl to run on as many platforms as possible.

When you have created a cool mix, you may well want to share it then and there, or even later - either via email, in a web page or forum post, or even in a tweet - and have someone else hear it as you intended.

Imagine the frustration of using some other generative music product to make your generative mix or music but you then find you cannot then share it, or, even if you can, you can only share it with people who have the same device type or even computer system as you!? That really limits who can hear it, and is why generative music systems simply must be as widely portable as possible. This is no trivial feat of software engineering, but we have spent a lot of time solving this one for YOU. It means you can publish your mix and be heard on many, many different devices and computers.

Mixtikl is a portable generative music system and there are versions for mobile (iPhone/iPod touch, Windows Mobile [and later, we hope Android & Symbian]), desktop (Mac OS X, PC), web browsers (Plugin for Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari) and desktop music sequencers (VST and AU plugins for musicians who want to use Mixtikl's generative music capabilities in a sequencer's audio pipeline, and in their normal workflow - it's cool!).

Many uses - create "low cost" royalty free music for films, games, videos, relaxation etc.

Mixtikl is a full-blooded and content extendable stereo generative music & loop mixing system for creating CD quality music. It lets you mix audio and MIDI loops (including Intermorphic add-on content Paks packaged as Tiklpaks or your own content Paks packaged as standard zip files) with generative music, as well as apply and customise a huge range of live sound effects (chorus, reverb, filter, distortion, overdrive, delay, EQ, compressor and amps). You can also make and use microphone recordings in your mix. If you are Noatikl user, you can play your Noatikl pieces in it, too.

The mixes you make with Mixtikl can be played live or saved to audio files - music recordings which you can then use royalty free for your projects (provided the source material you use is suitably licensed, such as the Intermorphic Tiklpaks).

Our generative music heritage means Mixtikl 2 presently excels at ambient and atmospheric mixes, but we are not resting on our laurels there and will be extending it as fast was we can. If there is anything you would especially like to see - let us know!

It's ALSO a new social music publishing game - mix & tweet, then even remix & tweet again!

Mixtikl comes with a lot of content that you can mix together to create chillout ambient to ear bashing beats. Once you have made your mix, then tweet it, email it or embed it in a webpage. Or, you can even record it!

With its magical mix of sound sources, FX and music engines, Mixtikl 2 has firmly ushered in the "tweet mix revolution". You may not believe your ears, but the 140 characters of a tweet really are easily enough for you to easily create and publish your own infinite generative music mixes of of a quality that will astound yet entertain you. We call these tweets "mix tikls" ["tickles"].

How is it done you ask? The boffins at Intermorphic built upon the vector audio techniques they pioneered back in 2000 & 2001 (at SSEYO) where they found ways to deliver sounds in one SMS. Now they've found a way to play entire 12 track mixes in a tweet, fully loaded with FX and mix settings too!
