Computer Music did an in-depth 2 page review of Mixtikl 2 in their April issue (number 150) that is now out. They reviewed the initial release of Mixtikl – version 2.0.1.4.
They had some very nice things to say about Mixtikl 2, such as:
“If you’ve been waiting 20 years for a sequel to Eno’s Appollo or The Pearl, then wait no longer”
“As far as results go, you’ll find it almost perfect”
“You’ll find Mixtikl to be a generative powerhouse”
“Wonderfully varied, organic output”
“Mixtikl delivers the generative goods, and can in fact sound staggeringly good”
” There’s no denying the musicality of Mixtikl’s end results, which are really in a class of their own when it comes to generative music”
And that was despite (in all fairness!) not much liking the interface in 2.0.1.4. The good news there is that in the 2.1.0.6 release of yesterday (also now also live on iTunes) we have continued our efforts to make improvements on the interface and we will continue to improve on it in further updates.
You can get the latest 2.1.0.6 release of Mixtikl for iPhone/iPod touch from here, or download it for other platforms from here.
In summary, we strongly recommend you ASAP track down and buy a copy of Computer Music issue 150, not only to see the whole 2 page Mixtikl review, but because its a fabulous magazine in its own right!

In a matter of days we will upload the Mixtikl updates, and submit to iTunes, too.
We are still focusing on improving Mixtikl 2 useability, and in this release we have greatly improved the main menu and so made it much easier to get going. In further releases we will be concentrating on improving useage of the content cell (this is the heart of the Mixer) as well as other cells. Once we have done that (we know what we have to do), we are then going to get going on feature extension.
This release will also see Mixtikl 64bit versions making their first appearance. We have had to create these to fix the file transfer problems from Windows Vista and Windows 7, and 64bit versions. However, it also means that the Mixtikl VST plugin can run at 64bit on windows (64bit Mac versions still to come).
And on a fun note, Mixtikl 2 will be making an appearance in Computer Music Magazine Issue 150 (out 15th March), and will be included on the cover DVD. We have no idea what they will say, so we just hope there are some nice bits. By then the Mixtikl 2 updates will be available to download from our site, and we also hope that the updates for Mixtikl for iPhone/iPod touch will be available at the App store, too!

At long last, we have updated out User Guides. If you are a user of Mixtikl, Partikl and maybe use add-on content Paks / Tiklpaks, then they should help you get the best out of the product. There are PDF versions of each guide available to download, too.
The Mixtikl Pak making guide makes it much clearer on just how to make a Pak (it is actually pretty easy, as they are really just zip files of content, with a bit of extra meta data), as well as showing you how to use your content without needing to make a Pak.

Mixtikl 2.0.1.0 is now available, with main changes to do with improving useability. The “New Random” feature should help you get a mix going very quickly, and is a great way to come up with new mixes, quickly!
Updates available for Mac OS X, Windows, Windows Mobile.

Well, it had to happen some day
. Yes, we finally did it, we pushed the button on Mixtikl 2. We have no idea how long it will take to get approved, but we just hope the approval process will be smooth and fast. There is not reason it should not be, as we have been good citizens and only used published APIs etc.
The launch price for Mixtikl 2 for iPhone / iPod touch will be $2.99. We feel that is a total steal
, but we want to thank those who get it early, and this is our way of giving those people our thanks! We do intend to keep improving Mixtikl 2, so keep checking back.
NB: We should be releasing the other variants of 2.0.1.0 in the next day or two!
