Mixtikl 2 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) now baked

November 30th, 2009 by Tim Cole

Mixtikl 2 RC1 is now built, and will be undergoing testing during the week. We are really looking forward to releasing this on 8th December!

What will be released on 8th December are the Windows and Mac OS X desktop versions, and versions for Windows Mobile Smartphone and Pocket PC.

We will be submitting Mixtikl 2 for iPhone / iPod touch to Apple then (or the day or so before). We know, however, that Apple approval takes some time and it is the Xmas season coming up…. So, it is our expectation that the iPhone / iPod touch version won’t be in the iTunes store until after Xmas…. :( . We are sorry about that, but whilst approval is pending at least you will be able to play with it on your Mac or Windows PC in the interim, to get a feel for it – and there is plenty of fun and experimentation to be enjoyed there. You will be able to make mixes you can move to your iPhone later, and you can try out posting mixes you make with it. You will also be able to check out our surprise feature and have a bit of fun with that, too!

Mixtikl 2 hits final beta cycle, goes large on vector audio

November 16th, 2009 by Tim Cole

We hit the final Mixtikl 2 beta cycle as of Sunday morning.

Mixtikl 2 is going large on vector audio. What this means is that you can paste your mixes into emails & embed, listen to & share them in webpages & in forum posts.

Web page embedded mixes are played with the Mixtikl plugin, which not only plays mixes but is the full Mixtikl. That means you have a 12 track mixer that can – in a web page – mix generative “parts”, audio and MIDI loops (including your own), apply a wide range of live FX – and even design synth sounds in.

Email mixes are those that you export from Mixtikl, and paste into an email. The recipient, if they have Mixtikl installed, can simply import the mail into Mixtikl and then hear your mix. This is really fun on iPhone for example. Of course, you can then remix it, and paste it back into another email to send.

Forum posting of mixes is also exciting, as it provide a very fast way you can publish your mixes so that anyone else with Mixtikl (the browser plugin) can hear them inline, in the forum post page. They can then remix, and repost. All in a matter of minutes!

Mixtikl 2 Example Generative Music Recordings on Last.fm

November 10th, 2009 by Tim Cole

We have today uploaded some more recordings of Mixtikl 2 running on an iPod touch. The recordings can be accessed (streamed or downloaded) from the relevant Intermorphic Last.fm webpage http://www.last.fm/music.

There is now also one example of the use of microphone recordings in a mix, where those were made within Mixtikl using an Apple headset mic.

We forgot to mention earlier that the Intermorphic website styling is now refreshed and ready for the launch of Mixtikl 2 on 8th December! We will upload Mixtikl 2 related webpages then, too.

Mixtikl 2 example audio recordings online – the first of many generative music excursions

November 10th, 2009 by Tim Cole

We have now posted the first examples of music created by Mixtikl 2, live, on 3rd gen iPod touch. Mixtikl will play fine on 1st or 2nd gen, but these were recorded on a 3rd gen device.
http://www.last.fm/music/Intermorphic/Mixtikl+2+-+Examples

They are all generative, meaning that they are generated live by the Noatikl generative music engine in Noatikl. They are also mixes created from some of the Tiklpaks (generative content “parts” and audio loops) that come with Mixtikl 2.

One of the mixes (Evensong Looper) also incorporates a couple of audio loops with EQ and filter applied.

We are looking forward to hearing your mixes, too, and we will do more example mixes in the run up to Mixtikl 2 launch.

Mixtikl 2 launch date

November 5th, 2009 by Tim Cole

Mixtikl 2 will be launched on December 8th.

At launch there will be versions for:
- Windows and Mac OS X (standalone, browser plugin, VST plugin variants)
- Windows Mobile (Smartphone and Pocket PC)
- iPhone/iPod touch (submitted to, but awaiting approval from Apple).

It has taken us just a wee bit longer (ahem!) than we had hoped. This is because it is a complex beast and, as is our wont, we have been adding things to it and refining it. We will be doing a website refresh in the next few days and will post some Mixtikl 2 screenshots then. We will also then upload some recordings of mixes made with it.

Looking forward to hearing in the forum how you get on with it when released,

tim and pete
